Located along 22 acres in the Nantahala Gorge area of western North Carolina, Falling Waters Adventures Resort depends on nature to initiate both peace and excitement. Visitors have access to nearby ponds, waterfalls, whitewater river rafting, steam and diesel railroad excursions, horseback riding, bike trails, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and other outdoor activities and beautiful sites.

“There’s nothing better than a chance to escape the business of everyday life,” says Lisa and Shannon, yurt2_sm.jpgfirst-time guests of the Resort. “We especially enjoyed waking up to the fog-capped mountains, morning coffee and the feng shui chic décor. We loved it and we’ll be back for more with friends.”

With the Barn Group Lodge that sleeps up to 44 people, and eight yurts, all having room for four people each, the Resort welcomes those who love the outdoors but prefer some comforts of home. Scattered over a three-acre area with a Mongolian-inspired design, the accommodations in Yurt Village are equipped with electricity, running water, ceiling fans, a small refrigerator, coffee maker and otheramenities.

They are 16 feet in diameter and have weatherproof fabric wrapped around a Douglas Fir lattice wall. The wooden French doors open up to private decks that overlook Fontana Lake or the Resort’s ponds. At night, domed skylights let the stars shine through the yurt to the bed. Within steps of the yurt is a hot tub, coin-operated laundry facilities, BBQ grill, fire grills and covered picnic pavilion.

The Barn Group Lodge is modeled after an early Appalachian tobacco barn and includes a recreation hall, dining area and formal meeting room. It is often used for corporate retreats, large family vacations, youth gatherings and other events requiring respite and rustic comfort.

Falling Waters is well known for its Raft and Rail Excursion, which starts with a 22-mile, two-hour scenic trip on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. As the train crosses Fontana Lake and yurt3_sm.jpgcontinues up the Nantahala River Gorge, guides provide a historic overview of the area.

At the top of the river, rafters are given basic instruction before proceeding down the Class II and III rapids. Other whitewater trips through Wildwater Ltd. Rafting include excursions along the Chattooga, Ocoee and Big Pigeon rivers.

Falling Waters Adventure Resort is managed by Wildwater Ltd. Rafting. The owners are the original professional outfitters in the Southeast and have been offering outdoor adventures since 1971.
