Home Designers Deliver Thoughtful and Price-Efficient Plans

With the expert help of home designers John W. Turman and Carole Berg, anyone with a plot of land and a vision for a structure is welcome to access 30 years of combined experience and two lifetimes of creativity and conceptual artistry. For less than the cost of an architect—and with the promise of outstanding client services—the partners at Design Residential focus on function, flow and space allocation. At the same time, they are committed to quick responses related to the development of a plan or modifications required during construction. “Building or remodeling a home is very personal,” says Turman. “We are sensitive to our clients’ needs and care about their concerns so we make communication a priority. Their satisfaction is personal to us.”

Clients with a picture in their mind can call on Turman and Berg to see their refined dreams on paper. Those without clear ideas but are open to innovation will be pleasantly surprised as the process of design unfolds at the hands of the Design Residential team. “We’re happy to work from scratch or take an existing drawing to the next level,” says Berg. “Either way, we’ll create something wonderful that suits the lifestyle of our clients and compliments the land that the structure will be placed.”

Since 1993, the Design Residential partners have worked with both contractors and landowners to prepare construction-ready plans for different styles of homes, including Craftsman, Modern, Contemporary, Mediterranean, Tuscan, Prairie and Victorian, among others. Recently Turman and Berg used their computer drawing software skills to deliver designs for three 5,000-square-foot homes in Medford’s Saddle Ridge community.

With a philosophy of “Home design that inspires” Turman and Berg ensure that every 3-D drawing includes special touches and unique elements, inside the home and to the exterior. In 2007, Design Residential will launch its web-based Home Plan Catalogue, which allows people to browse through plans categorized by lot type, house width and house style. With it, contractors and land owners can quickly find the look they want at a price they can afford. In addition, Turman and Berg can modify drawings to change room configurations, windows, doors, roof styles and other such details. “Anything is possible,” says Turman.

From simple and basic to elaborate and detailed, Design Residential brings value to the home planning process. Through the years, Turman and Berg have helped the affluent enter their ultimate dream home or expand their living space. They have created scaled-down versions of homes for empty nesters and retirees, and worked with first-time landowners dedicated to the “green” lifestyle or who want to build a home that will accommodate a growing family.

With each project, the Design Residential team works out of their new Elm Avenue office and counts on their many construction partners, including Asher Homes, Hildreth & Graham Homes, Chris Adams Construction and Goings Homes, among others. For interior design work, Turman and Berg rely on several local professionals, including Carol Sharp of Medford Interiors.

From a mental picture or verbal description, to the computer screen, a first draft, blueprints and the actual construction process, Design Residential sees clients through the home-building process, beginning to end. “We love what we do because we save people money without compromising their dreams,” says Turman. “When they get what they want, we all walk away happy.”
