Photographer Focuses on Systems of Framing
If you ask Cory Burnett, he’s in a constant state of artistic flux and on a continual quest for knowledge. And that’s the way the architect-turned-photographer likes to live, work and play. Raised on a wheat farm in North Central Oregon, Burnett grew up with an appreciation for the environment and mindset to create his own systems of framing. “Wide open expanses prepared me for seeing everything in macro scale,” he explains. “At the same time, I was forced to function in a micro society so I have an innate talent for capturing the essence of a scene or situation.”
Cory obtained a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from the School of Architecture and Allied Arts at the University of Oregon and an Associates of Applied Science in Architectural Drafting from Lane Community College. Today, Burnett incorporates his education, his farming roots and natural talents at Crowerks, an intuitive graphic and web design studio he co-owns with Brook Burnett
Blurring the lines between digital and analog, Burnett searches for and discovers new ways to see things while photographing architectural spaces, food, lifestyles, outdoor scenes and other people, places and things. With an eye for aesthetics and a need for creativity and innovation, Burnett constantly experiments with abstract photography and alternative photographic techniques.
As a professional, published photographer, Burnett was featured in Affluent magazine, with a spread on Cannon Beach in the 2006 November/December issue. His work has also appeared in Coast Style Magazine, among other Pacific Northwest publications and venues. Many of Burnett’s images are incorporated into multi-media campaigns for Crowerks clientele.
Located in Cannon Beach, Oregon, Crowerks specializes in the design of creative advertising for hospitality professionals, restaurateurs, Pacific Northwest travel productions, and surf culture / surf retailers. Primarily focused on identity design, web design and programming, and printed promotional products, the Crowerks team is well known for its ability to tell a client’s story. Their work helps establish a company’s image, build awareness and promote business growth.
“We dream and conceive visuals to tell customers’ stories,” Burnett says. “Since much of our work centers around photography, we begin with the best possible image and let that image guide the rest of the creative process.”
To date, that creative process has resulted in finished products for a wide range of clients in Cannon Beach and beyond. But in addition to printed promotional materials, Crowerks conceptualizes and designs Pacific Northwest surf-art inspired garments.
By partnering with Los-Angeles-based American Apparel and with Seatthole printing, both t-shirts and hoodies are available at the Crowerks on-line store and at Cannon Beach Surf. ■
