No Need for the Knife: Exclusive Medical Rejuvenation without Surgery
By Dr. Elizabeth VanderVeer
George Bernard Shaw stated, “Youth is wasted on the young.” Yet as the calendar creeps forward, 76 million Baby Boomers refuse to let chronological age dictate their appearance and health. In fact, we Boomers have changed the very definition of age. Today, we look for ways to retain our youthful bodies and appearance. At a point when many would have slowed down or even settled into retirement, men and women are vibrant, active, and caring for themselves like never before and we take our appearance seriously. We have money to spend, and we choose to spend it for experiences and endeavors that truly add value to our lives.
We look for ways to turn back the clock without interruption of our daily lives, literally creating the demand for non-surgical image enhancement. This makes aesthetic medicine the fastest growing segment of medicine today, with over 12 billion dollars spent annually in the U.S. alone. Thanks to this new specialty, it is no longer necessary to wait for the surgeon’s knife to radically reshape our face and body. Rejuvenation - as opposed to radical alteration - is the new status quo. In fact, one is more likely to be overwhelmed, rather than limited by, the choices available today in non-surgical aesthetic medicine. We search with fervor and embrace modern medicine’s advances in drugs, devices, and elixirs to help us turn back the hands of time. But how do we know where to go or whom to trust?
In traditional medicine, insurance may dictate where and with whom we receive medical care. Anti-aging medicine does not have the same restrictions. Provided a patient can afford it, they may seek treatment from any provider. But this model of aesthetic medicine actually sets up a particular type of vulnerability-one where patients may be unduly swayed by price and promises, or where the provider may suggest and even offer services that are not indicated.
It is possible to turn back the clock and take years, if not decades, off your appearance without surgery. With an artistic approach, a nonsurgical rejuvenation plan will enable you to sculpt, restore, and harmonize your face and body while making you look like you-only better. The lure in aesthetic medicine is great. As an enthusiastic provider and leader in the anti-aging
industry, I am acutely aware of the temptations of quick fixes or promises that sound too good to be true. But aesthetic medicine is not an area to be taken lightly-by provider or patient. There are many ways in which a person can go about enhancing their appearance, but the same Hippocratic Oath applies to aesthetic medicine as to traditional medicine - “First, Do No Harm.”
A colleague recently likened today’s aesthetic patient to car owners. In years past, cars were liable to have been “driven into the ground” with heavy use and deferred maintenance, until the eventual day when a complete overhaul was needed-new engine, transmission, brakes, and more. Today, cars are purchased with extended warranties and are cared for as they “age” so they will look their best and perform well over time. This is notunlike the aesthetic patient. Rather than neglecting our appearance until drastic action is needed, we are taking care of ourselves at younger ages with “routine maintenance” and preventive care. There’s never been a better time for non-surgical face and body rejuvenation, for most of what is desired in outcomes can be achieved without the knife - regardless of age. You can look years younger and pounds thinner in a short amount of time.
My anti-aging medical practice is a constant reminder of how privileged I am to help men and women look and feel better. My career and reputation are predicated on my scientific critique of any given product, procedure, or device; my commitment to customer service; and my desire to truly understand the needs and expectations of my patients. The well-placed trust of my patients is principal to my practice. At VanderVeer Center, we have cutting-edge technology, yet our focus is on your results and overall health.
