Resort Offers Respite and Recreation…by the Ocean and on the Course
Oregon industrialist John D. Gray built the Salishan Spa & Golf Resort in 1965. In the past few years, the Central Oregon Coast vacation resort was completely restored and revitalized to reflect Gray’s original vision. Millions of dollars were invested in the lodging, dining, entertainment and recreational facilities, bringing them to the highest modern standards and retaining first-class quality and service.
Since the day it opened, The Salishan has drawn attention from business and recreational travelers, as well as day trippers. And as one of the Pacific Northwest’s prime destination resorts, it has won several awards. For example, Salishan ranked in the Top 300 Resorts in the World by Travel and Leisure magazine. It also won the DiRoNa Guide Award for Excellence in Dining and the Conde Nast Traveler’s Best Places to Stay, Gold List.
A short drive from major Oregon and Washington cities and Nestled amid 350 wooded acres, the Salishan Lodge offers 205 spacious guest rooms, all tastefully appointed, featuring gas fireplaces and private balconies. The resort is great for a quick getaway or hassle-free extended vacations—for an individual, romantic couple, group of friends or an entire family.
Parents can enjoy a round of golf in the resort’s world-renowned course whose links-style layout was recently restored by legend Peter Jacobsen and his design firm, Jacobsen Hardy Golf Course Design. The restoration improved the course’s playability by rebuilding the fast greens, repositioning bunkers to emphasize strategic play and enhancing turf conditions throughout.
The golf course renovation included new drainage technologies, making the course playable year-round, while subtle layout changes enhanced the natural beauty that Salishan golfers have come to expect. In addition, the course’s pro shop and locker room were refurbished.
For tennis enthusiasts, the resort’s championship indoor and outdoor courts are easily accessible. Grown-up guests can also work out in the all-new fitness center, receive restorative treatments in the spa overlooking Siletz Bay, or enjoy gourmet dinner accented with one of 10,000 bottles of classic and imported wines stored in the resort’s cellar.
Meanwhile, the Salishan Kids Club keeps younger family members contented with age-appropriate sports, events and entertainment. Tennis and golf professionals—with plenty of experience and patience—train and supervise the children. Kids also enjoy outings to local fun spots, including the Newport Aquarium and Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum. But when it’s time for family fun, members gather for a hike along one of the numerous trials or prepare for a day at the beach ― a short distance away.
All travelers appreciate Salishan’s luxurious accommodations that provide respite from the outdoors. Ranging from just over 400 square feet for a traditional room to 1,550 square feet for an Executive Suite, guests are treated to beautiful linens, terry robes and amenities such as Starbucks Coffee and Salishan bath products. And every room has a view, whether it’s of the golf course, the forest or the bay. ■
