Floating Condos and Penthouses in High Demand

Although the rest of the country may be feeling the housing slump, condo and penthouse sales onboard the $750 million private residential cruise ship, The Magellan, have been so brisk a new 5,500-square-foot sales center has been opened to deal with demand.

“With our sales exceeding expectations, it became evident for the need to staff up our sales team in order to better accommodate our potential new owners,” said Randall B. Jackson, president and CEO of Residential Cruise Line, Ltd. “Rapid customer responsiveness is one of our hallmarks. We want to make sure that our owners have a stellar customer service experience from their initial point of contact to when we hand them the keys to their new condo or penthouse onboard The Magellan. Additional sales staff will insure we stay true to our hallmark.”

The most luxurious private residential cruise ship ever conceived, The Magellan features the amenities and services of the world’s finest resorts. On-call housekeeping staff, a world-class spa and marketplace, a 24-hour concierge staff, indoor and outdoor pools, four fine dining restaurants, a 450-seat theatre featuring Broadway-quality entertainment, and a casino worthy of Monte Carlo are just a few of the features that make owning a home onboard The Magellan a unique experience.

In addition, a US Open-style tennis court has been added to the design of the ship and will be located above the indoor saltwater swimming pool. According to Jackson, the tennis court was added to round out the first-class amenities offered aboard The Magellan.

The Magellan is 860 feet and 72,000 tons of cruising luxury with a full-service retractable marina, on-call private Bell 429 helicopters and 300 ports of call. Rresidents have anytime access to their floating penthouses where 300 crew members await around the clock to say “Welcome Home.”

The new line-up of residences consist of four one-bedroom, 624-square-feet condos with pricing starting at $156,250. Named The Madrid, the one-bedroom condos – though smaller in scale – are appointed with the same luxurious amenities found in larger units including plasma screen TVs, custom wood cabinetry and gourmet-quality appliances. In addition to The Madrid, eight additional two-bedroom residences – The Barcelona – have been added for homebuyer selection. The Barcelona pricing begins at $200,000.

“We redesigned The Magellan to meet buyer demand,” says Jackson. “The one-bedroom Madrid is perfect for empty-nesters or single adults who enjoy traveling in the lap of luxury but don’t require a lot of space. Additional two-bedroom residences were added simply because they are one of our biggest sellers.”

Private residences on The Magellan range in price from $1.875 million to $8 million for penthouses and from $156,250 for fractional ownership condos. Designed exclusively for buyers who only want to “own” specific months each year, fractional ownership provides a unique opportunity to purchase a unit on the ship in one-month increments.

“Unlike Destination Clubs and time share programs, fractional ownership means you actually own your residence for the month or months purchased,” says Jackson. “Buyers receive a stock certificate for each month purchased.” ■
