BMW Makes a Motorcycle for Die-Hard Riders
Any way you look at it, the new BMW Motorrad K 1200 GT is in a class all its own. From advanced riding dynamics that provide long-distance qualities and touring comfort, to superior sportiness, the K 1200 GT is a top-end motorcycle made for die-hard riders who appreciate performance
Incorporating the supreme engine technology of its predecessors, the K 1200 GT features a front Duolever and rear EVO-Paralever guidance system. Users can set the cruise control feature in advance to maintain speed and allow that riders can have both hands on the handlebar.
Its straight-four engine offers maximum output of 152 horsepower at 9,500 rpm, a 17 percent increase in power from last year’s model. And though the K 1200 GT weighs about six percent less than the previous model, it offers an 11 percent increase in torque and 17 percent higher theoretical cruising range. The six-speed gearbox of the BMW Motorrad K Series is integrated into the engine housing. Since it is light and compact, the motorcycle shifts smoothly, quickly and precisely.
“GT” stands for Gran Turismo, which describes the motorcycle as a sporty machine that is meant for travelling long distances. With BMW’s ergonomic design that includes an adjustable windscreen, riders can customize the height of the seat and handlebars, making the drive safer and more comfortable.
Standard equipment on the K 1200 GT includes on-board electronics with CAN-bus technology, a fully controlled three-way catalytic converter, the high-performance EVO brake system with semi-integral ABS anti-lock brakes, brake pad wear indicator and an electronic immobiliser.
The topcase is waterproof and is large enough to easily hold two helmets. Aside from comfort-oriented features for travelling in style, buyers of the K 1200 GT can choose from three standard colors to be combined with two contrasting colors for a more custom look. They also have the choice of adding extras, such as Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA), a xenon headlight, the BMW Navigator or the onboard computer system made up of a modern network connecting all of the machine’s electrical and electronic components, with digital transmitted through a single wire.
The aerodynamically optimised full fairing on the new K 1200 GT is unusually lean and slender. Keeping the drag coefficient to a minimum, the fairing guarantees optimum riding stability at high speeds on the road. And despite its sporting look, the light and stable fairing, benefiting from aerodynamic refinement, offers excellent protection from wind and weather. ¦
